Week 23: Environmental Effects of Occupation Online Gathering

You can find the 2021 gathering here.

On June 7 we learned about the Environmental Effects of Occupation. We were joined by Dr. Mazin Qumsiyeh of the Palestine Museum of Natural History and Palestine Institute for Biodiversity and Sustainability at Bethlehem University.

More about our guest:

Dr. Mazin Qumsiyeh is a well-known activist and professor. He is the founder (along with his wife) of the Palestine Institute for Biodiversity and Sustainability (PIBS) and Palestine Museum of Natural History at Bethlehem University. And he’s written two books on Palestinian history and resistance, Sharing the Land of Canaan: Human Rights and the Israeli/Palestinian Struggle (https://www.plutobooks.com/9780745322483/sharing-the-land-of-canaan/) and Popular Resistance in Palestine: A History of Hope and Empowerment (https://www.plutobooks.com/9780745330693/popular-resistance-in-palestine/).

He’s also published other books, such as Bats of Egypt and Mammals of the Holy Land and over 140 scientific papers. You’d think that would keep him busy enough, but he also publishes a weekly Human Rights Newsletter. It is definitely worth your time to subscribe (http://lists.qumsiyeh.org/listinfo/humanrights). You can also check out his website (http://qumsiyeh.org/home/), and follow him on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/mazin.qumsiyeh.9)  and Twitter (https://twitter.com/mazinq. And consider buying one of his books about Palestine, linked above.

You can find the museum and institute on their website at https://www.palestinenature.org and follow them on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/Palestine-Museum-of-Natural-History-1454309858180882/ and Twitter https://twitter.com/PalMNH
